Serdar Isik is a naval architect, expert witness and marine surveyor. CRENA is founded  on his some 35 years broad and substantive experience. He is considered a leading expert in ship classification and statutory regulations, including certification and ship structures.


He worked for Bureau Veritas, (BV), a major classification society, for 20 years, in London, in Newcastle Upon Tyne, in Dubai and in its head office in Paris, France, from surveyor up to manager level, gaining diverse experience in regulations, certification, surveys and approvals. Whilst working in BV's Head Office, Paris, he held a number of managerial positions.  He developed the concept of the Damage & Repair Control Centre, which he then assembled and managed for seven years.
 
For three years he worked on Grand Cayman as Surveyor Naval Architect and Acting Principal Surveyor, for The Cayman Islands Shipping Registry, a Category 1 Register in the Red Ensign Group (REG), carrying out statutory surveys and certification for superyachts and commercial vessels.
 
He also worked in London for over eight years with Brookes Bell, a leading international marine consultancy, at Associate and then Partner level, during which period he was engaged in both field investigations and surveys, as well as expert opinion work. During his time with Brookes Bell and since establishing CRENA, he  has been involved with some high-profile marine cases and has given evidence on a good number of occasions as an expert witness in arbitrations both in the UK and Dubai.​
 
He has an HND and BSc (Hons) in Naval Architecture & Shipbuilding, an MBA, and he is a Chartered Engineer. He is a Lead Auditor for the International Safety Management (ISM) Code and ISO 9000; and an ILO Official Trainer for the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC2006). ​He has delivered papers at conferences on Naval Architecture and Structural Damages and has trained others extensively in the same. He is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Naval Architects and Fellow of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers  (USA).

He has fluency in and works in English, Turkish and French, including in interpretation and translation.
